As it has been said on here to defeat the dreaded flight control wad.
So with a 21" 870 that has been deep cleaned and denatured alcohol was used between shots.
With the 3" Federal HW #7's and the Carlson .640 choke 173 in the 10" and 270 in the 15" , most of the 10-15" area had the majority of the shot inside the 10-12" area.
The Carlson .660 had 131 in the 10" and 220 in the 15"
The Hevi- tube .662 had 163 in the 10" and 230 in the 15"
Has anyone else had similar results?

Shooting 870 3" 21"bbl used to shoot Hastings .665 non-ported and found good patterns with the FCW 3/2/6's and the 3" Fed HW 7's. I turned the same with the HW 7's. 180-200. Sometimes it would drop down to 140-150's with the 7's. I guess it was environment/ weather conditions making the difference. Switched choke and to 3" Hevi 7's. Shot 240's-280's. Tamed the FCW by throwing them in the gun cabinet. Well..now..here I go again..I have a Beretta Outlander with a Jebs .655. Recommended that I shoot Fed HW 7's and Third Degree. Back out they come. Glutton for punishment I guess.

I'm using the Trulock .650 in an 870 supermag, with a 23 inch barrel, shooting HW #7 in the 3 1/2 I'm averaging 150-160 in the 10 inch circle, great looking pattern. I deep clean between trips to the range and I use a lead sled to save my shoulder. My best was a 225!

That result you got with the Carlson .640 and HW 7's I believe I would hunt with. Those HW will definitely put the birds down. Sort of interesting, I believe all three of those tubes are Carlsons. I have not tried the HW 7's through my Hevi 13 .662. I wasn't sure I could do that safely.

I did not know about the safety factor with the Hevi 13 choke (being ported ) and the flight control wad until i was told so on here last year after posting i shot some in the 190's with it. Only shot 5 times with it before that with no problem.
It looks like a very tough choke , the flutes or slots are thick. But quit shooting it with those loads anyway. There are no warnings on the shell box or choke tube package?
Now with the Indian creek and very thin flutes i can see it.
Yes i really like the HW 7's effect on an old tom. Even out of the 20 gauge it is very impressive.

Yea I'm not for sure either. The word was that the 20 guage HW 7's are fine through the Hevi 13 choke because the petals on the wad are much softer. The 12 guage HW I was told could be a concern because of the rigidity of the petals on the wad. Clark Bush would probably be someone we could get a good answer on that as he has allot more knowledge about this subject than I.
