Anyone shooting Super Black Eagle and IC BDS .665?

I have a couple of chokes to try out in my SBE from my Stoeger 3500, a Jellyhead and a Ballistic Specialties Angle Port but want to try another one or two and am curious about the Indian Creek BDS in .665.  That sounds pretty open to me for a skinny barrel gun, just looking for any input for someone who has tried this combo.

Sumtoy, Rob Roberts and Jebs all sound like great performers too.

I have one I'll let you try if you want. It's for Mobil chok. Let me know

I have the very set-up you are inquiring about and it really depends on which shot size you are going to shoot. What shot size would that be? The thing I've noticed with this tube is not so much how tight a pattern you will get,but rather how uniform the pattern is....H-13 Magblend gave me the best results @ 248 pellets in a 10" circle @ 40yds.

Thanks for the help guys. I think one of my local hunting buddies has one I can try.  Think the info you gave should steer me well. New to me gun, not married to any load.  I usually shoot Longbeard  5 or 6 shot or Mag blend.  Looking for an even hunting pattern.

Think I will try Mag Blends in the IC .665.

My H&K SBE patterns best with a .660 for Hevi-13, 6's and 7's and gives great patterns w/ even distribution utilizing a .665 or .675 with Mag-Blends.  I don't know if it's due to the nominal 12 gauge bore diameter of the SBE's, but I have had better patterning success w/ 3" vs. 31/2" shells.  Interestingly,  I get real good even patterns w/ a non-ported Briley choke designed for Hevi-Shot which has a long parallel section and .675 inner diameter.  The Briley tube isn't as loud and has noticeably reduced muzzle blast vs. ported tubes.  Send me a PM if you want to evaluate a Briley turkey tube.  I bought my SBE in 1990, primarily for ducks and geese due to the light weight and swing for lay-out field hunting.  I think that you'll find that a lot of other 31/2' guns feel like a 2x4 in hand when compared to the SBE.

I have a H&K Benelli SBE that I purchase in 1991. It has only 4 numbers in the serial number (my year of birth), the rest are zero filled. It came with a 26" barrel that was very tight. I still have that barrel as well as a 24" and and a 28". They are all have a different bore i.d. but are all shooters.

Over the years I've shot many different brands and exit diameters of turkey chokes with that gun. Most have shot pretty well, some just better than others. I've also shot a great variety of shotshells. Early on I shot 3.5" Federal #4 copper-plated lead shot through a Briley straight-rifled, non-ported turkey choke and killed several turkeys with that combination. I had to shoot at the top of the gobblers head because it shot about 6" low at 30 yards.

The exit diameter that works best really depends on how the choke is designed and what kind of internal geometry it has. With some a .665 may work and with some a .650 or even tighter .640 may work. I have leaned that most like to be pretty clean. The chrome-lined bore will look clean when it's really pretty dirty. Since a Benelli will just keep shooting regardless of how many shells you put through it, it's easy to neglect the bore.

Over the years, folks have saved themselves a lot of money by "deep cleaning" the bore rather than buying a new choke for their SBE. It's always my first recommendation when someone contacts me about poor to medicore patterns with that gun.

If however, I was in the market for a new choke, I'd have to look very hard at a JEB's .650. It seems to work exceptionally well with both WLB and Hevi-13 shells.

Lastly, like many SBE shooters, I've found that the 3" shells do everything that's needed for cleanly killing turkeys at all reasonable ranges. I now only shoot 3.5" shells for evaluation purposes.

Good luck whatever you pick.

Thanks,
Clark

Thanks again for all the great info. That is interesting about the Briley straight rifled choke.  I resisted the temptation to buy an SBE when they first came out as I had two kids in college and I felt guilty about spending the money.
In the meantime I used a Mossberg 835 with great results, as well as a Feanchi 912 3 1/2". I "grew up" hunting with my cousin, mostly geese on land we own together....he like some of you,has a 24" H and K SBE that  always admired.  I have since owned a 3500 Stoeger  (still have it) , and a 935 Mossberg.  The SBE does make them feel like a 2 x 6.

I have a Jellyhead from the Stoeger  I can try and if I remember correctly its .655.  Also have a .650 Ballistic Specialties from Batesville, AR , that provides a very even hunting pattern in the Stoeger.   I am thinking about trying a Jebs or Rob Roberts choke, as well as an Indian Creek.  I am glad to hear the 3" loads do well in the SBE as I did notice some recoil goose hunting last weekend with the SBE and 3 1/2" Magnum goose loads.

Decoycrvr I think we have talked on the phone before about my Kings Ferry 37. It went away as I never found a choke \ load combo that performed to my expectations....it did provide a brand new AR 15 in trade though!
I will contact you about the Briley test offer if I need some other options.

I will likely use Hevi 13 or Longbeard  6's.

Thanks again all!

I have two left-handed SBEs, one with a 26 inch barrel and one with a 24 inch barrel. The 26 inch barreled gun has been my go-to turkey gun for years. I shoot 3 1/2" Nitro 4x5x7s with an Indian Creek .665 choke in it. I have killed a lot of gobblers with this combo, some at ranges I don't even want to talk about. I have gotten as high as 280 pellets in a 10 inch circle at 40 yards.

I am shooting a Patternmaster Code Black in the 24 inch gun. I plan on shooting Winchester Longbeard #4s in it. I get around 160 pellets in a 10-inch circle at 40 yds with it which I think is great with #4 lead. I will use this one as a backup gun.
