acrylic or polyester resin

I've got a project in mind and want to make it out of acrylic or polyester resin but I don't know much about it. It'll be about 10"x15" by 1/2" thick. If anybody has any experience with this I could use some advise. What do you use? How do you color it? Can you swirl the colors? Does it need to be pressurized? And anything else that might be handy to know.
