So I don't have a place to turn calls right now...
I have done a few in shop class and loved it...of course I had no idea what I was doing or how to make them sound good so they don't lol...
I have been buying custom calls and it was getting expensive lol..
Found a company that sells precut pots...
I ordered 2 double sided pots...one zebra wood and one cocobolo...ordered blasted aluminum and blasted crystal for top surfaces and flate for the soundboard/2nd surface...
Also ordered a variety of strikers...1 and 2 piece...
Everything came and you could literally finish them and glue them up...
I figured I may as well spend a little time on them...
The cocobolo I just stripped...it will not dry so I found out with exotics like that you gotta finish differently...
I still have 4 2 piece strikers to finish...
Here is the zebra wood with crystal/slate
Strikers are cedar (my new favorite), blood wood, locust, and rosewood...
Gunna work on the cocobolo and other strikers tomorrow...
And...order a bunch more pots lol
I tested it after a couple hours of gluing it and it sounds good...
Can't call myself a call maker...but its fun...and the call sounds good...I've always loved wood working...just no space for it right now...
Oh...the strikers and pot look pretty different than they did when I got them lol...you could have finished and glued them up when I got them...but I spent a bit of time "making them MINE"
Have Some time invested...but I enjoy it....I'd really love making my own calls...one day I will have space for it!
