The whole thing is ridiculous. The Confederate flag is being used as a scapegoat and nothing more.

Flags , such as the Stars and Bars,  and symbols , such as the Swastika, did not stand for what most people think they do now days. Take away those symbols and forget about the past and the history and watch that history come back around full circle. Kind of like an Ostrich with its head in the sand.

im proud to be a southerner and proud of my ancestors who fought and died for the confederacy. I am also proud of the stars and bars. I do not see slavery when I see this flag , I see people standing up against a tyrant of a government at that time. people who are uninformed should actually study up on the cause of the American civil war. contrary to what many believe , it was not about slavery. it was the taxation the north was putting on the south. slavery was a cause put forth to give the regular people a cause to fight for. really to rally the northerners to fill the ranks in the army.

Here's my opinion..for what it's worth.

If some feel the flag is offensive; there should be a motion made and a vote put to the PEOPLE to decide. If the public votes to have it taken down; so be it. I just really have an issue with a few very outspoken individuals causing enough of a ruckus for the politicians to change things like that. Last time I checked, this country was still a democracy but maybe I missed something.

I don't think any of us are missing anything. We vite people into office and once they're in there they change. A chosen few make the decisions for 300 million others.

Yeah but we tried the public vote thing on gay marriage and that was all overturned by the Supremes.

Idk if most people realize it but the KKK flew the American flag not the confederate flag. Does that mean we should ban it also?  I think not!! All this hoopla over a flag is dumb!! People need to read up on history a lil before they go condemning something

A picture is worth a thousand words, they should Google KKK March on Washington DC 1925 and they will see for themselves that the American Stars and Stripes were used. On the other hand, the sitting President in 2008 stated he did not wear an American Flag lapel pin because it was a sign of oppression. He has since started to wear the pin.
