Need help/suggestions...
May 15, 2015, 07:46:05 AM
Good morning, my brother missed a longbeard this morning and is of course bummed. My question that I need help with is that this bird has been in the same block of woods all year. We finally got him to work but unfortunately the little bobbing head got the best of us. If this bird has consistently been in the same area, what is our chances of getting this bird to work again? Trust me he is worth hunting again. We both are curious if we could get it done again. If you think we could hunt this bird again, how long should we give him before we go after him again? Any help is greatly appreciated! We had two hen decoys set in front of us and he seemed to skirt the decoys as he came in behind us. We are hunting North Central PA. Thanks again for any suggestions!

If he saw him, a week. If he just thought he heard thunder, immediately.

I would go right back in the morning, if he has been in the same area since season has come in he will be in there again. I would try to get 60 to 75 yards from the tree he is in without busting him out, and just try to get in front of him. If his been in there since season has open you should have a pretty good ideal of what he wonts to do when he hits the ground. Hunt him like you would a deer, found out where he wonts to go and just wait.

I have shot and missed and was able to work the same bird from a different location by changing calls , 2 hours later. I also shot one and he got away. I was sick. Less than a week later , about 100 yards from where I had that happen , I killed a bird that had pellets in it. Can't be positive , but I believe it was the same bird from earlier in the week. Keep after him. It's a good chance you will get another shot.
