I'm going to hunt on my faimlies ground tomorrow for the first day of turkey here in PA. I know from being up there for deer that there are turkey and last weekend I went up there to scout and heard 3 gobblers and a couple hens. The whole property was scratched up and I even found a couple feathers. I have two questions for you guys.
1.) how would you hunt birds that you haven't roosted.
2.) should I set up my hen, jake, both or none at all?  :thanks: :newmascot:
"Stop flinching it's just a 3 1/2 inch Magnum" said the old man.

Turkey and I have a love hate relationship.

I would setup a hen & jake and call soft and wait 30 minutes in between calls. Away remember with turkeys less is more.

Pay attention to any turkey sounds you hear.  If you hear gobbles from the same area consistently, there has to be a reason the gobblers like hanging out there. Be looking for that area he likes to strut and see if you can find a place nearby there in range to set up.  If a gobbler already likes to go there, it is easier to call him someplace he already wants to go.

I always seek out higher ground because turkeys use it to see, be seen, and to have their voices carry farther.  Look along roadbeds and paths for signs of strutting.  If he was there once, he may desire to go back again.

Good luck.
