Went out again to same spot as yesterday, and right off the bat I heard a hoot owl fired up on the property adjoining mine. Yesterday there was a guy hunting over there so I figured it must have been him. So in order to stay safe and not get into a calling duel, I opted to go to the other side of the land which was a good hike away from where I started. Nothing was responding to the owl call anyways. So, about half way to my destination, roughly about 7:45, I hear wings flap above me, then see a hen sail right out of the tree. Sick was how I felt, but she was by herself.
So my wheels get to turning and I had two questions
1. Why was she by herself
2. Why was she still on the roost when it was almost 8:00
I wondered if she already had a nest nearby.
I didn't hear any gobbles, but I confident that will fire up soon.
Any suggestions as to why she was not with other hens?
