Mouth call for clucks and purrs.

I am struggling to get consistent purrs and clucks from my mouth calls. if I get the Dead End call that is made for purrs and clucks, is it really going to make a difference or is it something that I am going to have to work on, regardless of what call I use?

Some calls will make your life easier. Not sure bout dead end, Hooks calls are easy to use. Clucks should come out of any call, same for purrs, but if you fight it you'll blow too much air n get more of a fight purr

Gonna have to work on it, it's not gonna be a magical fix all 2 reed batwings will cluck and purr if you know how. Maybe you should track down a copy of mouth call magic by Scott Ellis it might help get a better grasp on calling mechanics.

I learned with an HS strut instructional cd and just went through it every day in the car for like 2 months

I cannot roll my tongue, so I have to use my lips. I am struggling with consistency and trying to purr for longer than I probably should. What happens when I stretch the purr out too long is that I am taking my tongue off of the reed before I am done blowing on the call and I end up making noise with my lips. I know it is just a mind thing where I have to tell myself that short purrs are what I am after, but that is easier said than done.

Try gargling like you would with mouth wash.

This is the best call I've found, by far, for realistic purrs. I won't use it to yelp or cut. It's good for a finishing call.

I am sure there are guys that can do it, but I honestly do not see how. I definitely need to trill my tongue to make a purr on a mouth call...  Your face-mask will be covered in spit when you are done...

Purring is nice to be able to do, and I have finished a few birds by purring, but I also believe most of them probably would have come in with some quiet or soft contented clucking.  I would not get hung up on purring.

What I did before I could purr on a mouth call, was to use a good box call that could purr...  I put some camouflage netting over the call to hide the motion.

As it stand currently, if I get a bird coming in to my box call, I will rarely switch over to a mouth call.  I keep him coming on the same call that peaked his interest in the first place.  So, I still use a box to finish some birds, and I used a box to finish my second bird of last season.
