Happens,  Probably just the weather.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

GobbleNut

I have seen gobblers going from gobbling like crazy one day to very little gobbling the next.  Can't say I have seen a situation where that many gobblers were in an area and not one would make a sound, though.  I would doubt predators would cause it,...probably weather and/or breeding phase related,...but who knows for sure?

One thing about it, though, is that if there were that many gobblers there and nothing has changed, those gobblers are still there somewhere.  They should start up again at some point.

I know where 3 longbeards roosted last evening. I also heard some coyotes in that same area around midnight.  I went out to listen this morning and not a peep. With that being said, I have heard them gobble many times to the sound of coyotes.

:funnyturkey: Solar flares. Just kidding. Different day , you never know what shuts them up. Coyotes, weather, breeding cycle or all of the above. Good luck. They will be back

Have to agree with turkeyslayer, I bet they slept late after strutting all night.  LOL

I am inclined to believe that it was a barometric change....  as the front moved through that morning. Next day..... hammering away again. I am seeing lots of hens....may be henned up as well.  Talk about whipped.... I called a bird in yesterday to 50 yds... and just as I started to pluck him in my mind.... a hen cut loose with the loudest, nastiest, meanest sounding sequence of calls you have ever heard..... That tom tucked his tail and did an about face that would have made a drill sergeant proud.  Man... I love these birds!!!!!   Best wishes to all for a great season.

A butterfly flapped his wings in China.  It happens...and the more happens, the less sense it makes.  I don't even try to figure it out anymore.

MDSTRUTNRUT

They shut up cause they CAN!    I put my money on the front coming thru but hey if you're on that many gobblers hang in there you're in for a fun season!

Male turkeys are like female humans, there's just no understanding anything they do.
