William Lambert is right, you don't want or need to mess with the forcing cone on this gun.

Seeing some replies about not getting any work done to the gun.  I'm not trying to be rude when asking this, but have any of you had the work done on your personal guns?  I personally have 2 guns at my house right now with the forcing cone lengthened and the barrels ported by Rob Roberts and I can testify to the fact that what he claims in performance increase is true...  If I purchase another shotgun in the future, it will be shipped to him immediately to have the same work done.   As far as the SX3 is concerned, it is backbored, but I had him lengthen the forcing cone on my SX3 and there is a difference.   OP, to sum it up, you won't be disappointed in any work you have Rob do to that gun.  When you talk to Rob about the work, tell him what you are wanting out of the gun and he will even set you up the choke and recommend the best shell for the performance....

Rob has always delivered exactly what was promised with my guns I have no doubt if he says it will perform better that it will. There's a reason why you're seeing production guns with lengthened forcing cones. It's not a gimmick.

Depends on the particular gun. I would not touch the forcing cone on a Super X3. I am not taking anything away from Rob Roberts but William Lambert knows what he is talking about as well.

Some guns need the forcing cone lengthened, this one does not. Porting might help, might not. If it were me I would get a quality shell and a quality choke, shoot some patterns and if it was not broke I would not try to fix it. That gun will shoot just like it is with a good choke and shell.

 I'm not positive but I think the guy I talked to was named Jonathan and he recommended lengthening the forcing cone and porting. He said that although it's backbored to like .742 or something close to that a lot of people think its already done or doesn't need it but not so. He said w the gun like mine he just finished it was capable of dropping birds at 65 yards if you wanted to. Said that is one of the finest guns to get to do long range killing w and can be made into just that.

I also really liked the fact that he said w that exact gun he had found the longbeards still performed well out of it but not as far as the mag blends or whatever his main shells are. And that if I was going to hunting in hardwoods or know I'd have "closer" shots I could use one shell and have a different shell for say Oklahoma or somewhere I wanted to stretch it out.

Trappey, I am glad Jonathan was able to clear things up for you. I am sure Jonathan knows what he is talking about since he deals with these things all the time.  Jonathan DEFINITELY does not sound like  the type of guy to sell you anything you don't need or make any false promises or claims that he cannot deliver on. Now, you just need to find out what Jonathans "main shell" is and you will be good to go when you want to "stretch it out"  with that "long range killing." I am sure you will have complete confidence in knowing that Jonathan recommended your gun as one of the best for the "long range Killing."

Yeah, I think Jonathan is the shop foreman.  I've talked to him on several occasions.  As far as the porting goes, they say it doesn't affect your pattern either way, it just reduces recoil and barrel jump.  The SX3 is for a sure a shooter!

Gumby, I agree. I like to kill the up close and personal but if I get stumped by a bird and he won't come any closer than 50 or 55,I like killing and want to know I can end that chess match if I need to.

I hear ya....your still young! One day you will get to the point where you'll pass on that bird that hangs up and concede defeat.  Then go back and try him another day.
