My 12-year old son would like to start collecting a few unique strikers, made from different woods.  He wants to know which striker woods will give him what results on GLASS.  If you have a certain call maker whose strikers you especially LOVE, please give them a mention.

Thanks so much for your help!

Harold Fowler at Harold's Custom Strikers and Joe Slaton of Mother Lode Calls. They are both exellent ceraftsman and can help you out. My glass calls love Mr. Fowlers hippo ivory tipped striker and Joe's purpleheart and maple. These sound good to me but I am not a turkey. We will see this spring. I will say that rosewood on my glass does work on turkeys. Good luck, this is an addicting game.

I'd recommend that you start with a laminate (dymondwood) and purpleheart....they are very versatile for all surfaces...once you have a couple good strikers that play most calls well you can always tinker to find "the one" for a certain call or surface.

My favorite and most versatile strikers are:
(1) woodhaven oak laminate with flare tip
(2) dymondwood from Lights Out game calls
(3) purpleheart from Harold Fowler and Russell Beard
(4) hickory from Houndstooth game calls
(5) black locust from Harold Fowler

I hope this helps.  As others have said, every call and caller have their preferences, but you'll probably be well served with dymondwood and purpleheart I think.
Good luck!
