Hevi 13 #5

Has anyone tried the Hevi 13 #5, 3 1/2, 1 3/4 oz ?
Going back to BassPro on the weekend and thinking of  returning them for #6

I've had decent luck with the 3.5  2 1/4oz #5 hevishot.  I've never tried the 1 3/4oz  but usually the more pellets in the shell the better the pattern so I'd go with the 2 1/4oz load if you can find them.  Hevishot  #6s or #7s in a 2 1/4oz load would be even better.

I have had very good luck with the 2 1/4oz #5's and my buddy has done very well with the 3" 2oz #5's, I was getting into the mid 170's with the 5's and my buddy was knocking on the door of the 170's in 10" at 40 yards. I know 5's are not the "in" shell to be shooting now but they flatten birds like they were hit by lightning! and you never have to look hard to see were they were hit!

You will not be able to exchange your shells.

If you went to #6 then you can still kill out to 50 yds and farther and have a much denser pattern due to throwing more pellets at them.

Well i guess im using #5 as you were right, Basspro wont exchange ammo.
I will see how they pattern this weekend.
Will be buying a couple chokes this weekend, any suggestions for #5 shot?

Is that a .723 bore diameter then?  If it is then:

PG of .670 is 93% of bore     Most open    I would use for #5 or #4
IC of .665  is 92% of bore     Tight             I would use for #6
JH of .655 is 90.5% of bore    Very Tight    I would use for #6 or #7, if not happy with IC

Just my thoughts.  Will be wrong if I have the bore diameter wrong.

I would maybe try a Jellyhead or I would first try a Carlsons .665 non ported, If you want to go hi end... IC or Pure Gold. I have seen the lowly Carlson shoot some very very good patterns and they are inexpensive. I would give them a call and ask them for recommendations for the shells you have, They will also exchange your choke for another if you do not like the results you get. Also remember that the 2oz and 2 1/4oz loads are known to pattern much better than the 1 3/4oz so keep that in mind. If I could only use one load it would be Hevi-#5's I have seen a bunch of birds cart wheeled when hit with them, they hit very hard and make big holes!

people think the 7's hit hard but i hit a hen in the fall season with the 3-2-5's and i have never seen a turkey die quicker

I'm really liking the 3-2-5's I've tested this year in an 870 SM + .660 Jellyhead 

Every shot prints about like this:



Will shoot some 40's & 45's later this week...

Thanks for all the responses.
Just got off the phone with Carlsons and they recommended 665 choke in both the ported and none ported.
Is there much difference between them in the patterns?
Going to call Jelly Head also and get there recommendation.
I dont know much about chokes as you can see (i dont have one on my bow).
I assume i can use almost any good quality of choke as long as its .665.
Let me know if im wrong.
