Can anyone recommend a good choke and shell combo for a SX3 28" 3 1/2.  I don't mind spending the money for good stuff just would like to get a good starting point.  Been shooting a kicks GT out of my 870 and it shoots good.

Thanks

I get exceptional results using a Briley, Extended, straight rifled choke in a .665   Using #5 shot, at 40 yards.   My choke is ported, I have read where the pattern of a ported choke verses a non-ported choke makes no difference between the two.  Ported choke is suppose to reduce recoil somewhat.   Non ported Briley choke tube is considerably less than the ported choke.

Hey Aaron,

The really good news is that there are many brands of chokes that do an excellent job with the SX3 and its .742 overbored barrel. It's really all about the particular internal geometry that the designer uses.

The design engineer of that gun recommends their .640 turkey choke. The JEB's .650 is an excellent choice, as is the Wright's .650, Rob Roberts .650, Pure Gold .670 the SSX .643, and several others. If you're seeing good patterns with you Kick's in your 870, you may want to try one of those with your SX3. I'd call Kick's and see what they recommend for your gun.

I've been shooting 30+ different configurations of chokes in the "Turkey Choke Evaluation Project" and I+ chokes/barrels are included in the evaluation with 3" Winchester Long Beard shells with #6 shot. The #6 shot normally flows the best and creates the more consistently even patterns. The swarm of shot is more than sufficient to cleanly kill any turkey at ethical ranges. I've also seen some good patterns with #5 shot but the #6s pattern normally with fewer gaps in them.

Thanks,
Clark

my SX3 28" MODB Waterfowl does well over 200 in 10" at 40yds. with Indian Creek BDS .665 and Hevi shot 3.5/2.25oz/#7shot. That being said, I am considering a Patternmaster code black turkey just to compare. Indian Creek is a fantastic choke for the Sx3. Wish I would have bought it first, spent more money on 2 or 3 others then I paid for the Indian Creek.
