Yes, I know it's not a dsd, avian, deception etc..  I just don't think I can justify spending 100-150 bucks on a jake decoy that I may carry 2-3 times a year. I will NOT hunt decoys all the time, but I would like a decent looking 3/4 strut jake when the time calls. Should I pick one up for 35 bucks or not?

I had the same question and luckily I had a wildlife biologist friend with me and I asked him about the size of the decoy as it relates to the hen decoys I have.  He said that the body size would definitely be considered larger and therefore percieved to be more dominant.  My personal opinion...if you are wanting a jake decoy...its good looking but I took it out of the box and it looked like creasing could be an issue.  Probably be just as well off to get a foam fold up one for $9.97 especially since hunting over decoys is not your primary way of hunting.

For $40 I don't think you can beat it.

If you do not mind doing a repaint on the head, the Pretty Boy Jr. jake looks like a possibility...  The head on that thing is pretty terrible...
Did I do that?

Fly fishermen are born honest, but they get over it.

A buddy of mine tagged out last year in AL w/the Thugs decoys from Wal-Mart; I just picked up a set for $5.40 each, and couldn't be happier.  Here's a little tip to make even the cheap-o foamies look fairly decent: http://youtu.be/6msojrNzXHg
