That's a real bummer. He was an icon of the turkey hunting world. RIP Lovett. :jesus-cross:

A note from our local Chapter;

I am sad to announce that the NWTF has lost one of its loved members and well respected turkey biologist, Lovett Williams. Lovett was instrumental in restoring the Osceola turkey population, and opening of the wildlife research center in Gainesville Fl.  He is best known for the numerous books he has published on wild turkeys, throughout the years. One would only wish, they could understand turkeys, the way Lovett did.

Lovetts memorial will be held Sunday (May 3) at 2:00 at Prairie Creek Lodge (outside of Gainesville). Click on link for directions.http://alachuaconservationtrust.org/index.php?/alachua_v2/pcl_map

In Lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Lovett Williams Conservation Fund. Donations may be mailed to Lovett's wife...

Very sorry to hear this, wish I could have talked to him just once.

My best friend had the great good fortune to hunt with Lovett Williams several years ago and learned more from spending time in turkey camp with him in a week than he had in years on his own in the woods. I heard he was in poor health last year and I hope he is at peace now.  I appreciate the dedication and love Lovett showed for wild turkeys and their habitat.

Luck counts, good or bad.

wild turkey biology will suffer quite a setback without Lovett.  His burdens are no more he's busy chasing long beards!

"around here, turkey hunting is more like a religion than a pastime.getting close to nature, getting back to where we most belong is something we hold sacred.when we do get to take one home, we do so with reverence"

Prayers to his loved ones.
If I had a dollar for every gobbler I thought I fooled I'd be well off!

He truly is a turkey icon dedicating his life to the preservation and study of the wild turkey...Thoughts and prayers for his family.
