My wife wants to make the trip from Tennessee to enola Pennsylvania (near harrisburg)

If we do it will be next season, and if possible I'll try to tag an extra bird.

Anyone have any general about public hunting land near that area?

If you are hunting public land be sure to wear body armor.  :z-guntootsmiley: :OGturkeyhead:

I can deal with the people, I hunt middle tn public land so it can't be much worse.

What I can't seem to find and study up on is names of wma's? And legal shot size s and such

Hey man go to the Pennsylvania Game Commission Website, there is a mapping system under "hunter access" once you get to the site and then can point you to some places to hunt.  There is also WMU info on the site.

Shot size I believe is no larger than #4.  Gotta have your shotgun plugged at 3.  Spring turkey hunting is "by calling only" and only a bearded bird is legal.  First two weeks hunt til 12 out of the woods by 1.  After the 2nd Saturday it's all day long.  There is some beautiful land in PA and there are turkeys, but if you're going to do it on public you're going to have to be willing to strap on the boots and hike.

Here's the site: http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/pgc/9106

I grew up 5 mins from Enola, pa. And now live in western nc. Not the best game lands right around there and yes way too many hunters. Hunting was an excusable absence there when I grew up. Probably the closest public land is lambs gap, if you go there check out idle road. Or go a little further to pine hill, or another access off rt 850 all 20 mins from Enola. Consider driving about 45 mins north to northern perry or juniata county. The farther north the bigger the mountains, the bigger the public land. I always felt crowded when one gobbled because i knew if I heard it so did the other 5 people around me. Let me know if you need any directions or locations.

I am not familiar with the eastern part of the state but besides the game land mapping system see what the dcnr has to offer with state parks or state forests.

You can go on their site (Google pa dcnr) and check out the hunter maps.  These maps will show you the timbered areas. ..Specifically how old the cut is and what type of cut it is.  This can help you with where to go or where not to go.
