OT: Elk Hunting Rifle (.300 Win Mag)

Hey Y'all,
I'm in the market for a .300 Win Mag. I'm looking for a good rifle with an integrated magazine, not one of those detachable ones. I liked the Browning X-Bolt until I heard about the detachable magazine. I read that the Remington 700s and Winchester Model 70s just aren't what they used to be and that if you go with a Ruger you'll need to have a trigger job done.
What are y'alls thoughts?

I would search the net and find a pre 2011 model 700. They are out there!

I see used 300 mag Remington's for sale all the time. No one around my neck of the woods needs a 300. So once guys shoot them a few times they are ready to sale it.

The newer Rugers have the LC6 triggers no need for a trigger job anymore.

Can you use the X-Bolt as though the magazine did not detach? I could with the A-Bolts I had. Winchester had a bad spell, but the rifles they're making in Columbia now are a different story.

To the contrary, the new production winchester model 70s are the best ones winchester has ever produced. I bought a model 70 supergrade in 30-06 last summer. Fit and finish are excellent and it'll shoot tiny groups all day long. And their new moa adjustable trigger is awesome.

Here is my elk rig. It's a Remington 700 30-06. Sure I've had $$$$ worth of work done but I'm not the kinda guy to own several guns but just a few and I tweak them until I get them how I like them. That said I would opt for a Ruger 77 or Rem 700 and trash the factory trigger group in favor of a Rifle Basix or Timney and have it glass bedded. And I'll also suggest don't skimp on quality glass. Put a good scope on your gun other wise you will never realize the potential your rifle has.
It started it's life as a 700 stainless sps then I dropped it in a HS Precision Stock with my length of pull. I added a Rifle Basix trigger. Done another $200 worth of minor smith work and topped it with a Leupold VXIII. It's fairly light weight, and kicks about like and out of the box 243, and will print better than 1" groups all day every day with a variety of out of the box ammo.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons. However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

I have used a Savage 30-06 for years and years with no complaints, don't see why a 300 would be any different.

A friend bought a Browning A-bolt last yr and loves it. It shoots tight grps and he took a bull elk with it. .. I have an older Rem 700 and it shoots great. Should be plenty of older rifles around.

Have you looked at the offerings from CZ and Sako/Tikka?
