Last of my pocket calls heading to MN...

I was down to my last 2 pocket calls that I built last week, so I decided to send them to my Dad, and my Uncle.  This year will be their first year turkey hunting up in MN.   My uncle has done all the scouting and has the blind set up, and has talked my dad into going along.  They both have custom calls by me, so these will be new to them.  Dad doesn't hunt, and doesn't care to anymore, so I'm hoping this will spur a little excitement.  Maybe, just maybe, he'll make a spring trip down to Missouri to hunt with me someday.

noisy box call that seems to sound like a flock of juvenile hens pecking their way through a wheat field

Those are beautiful calls.

Is more than one call susceptible to being called a "pocket call."  Those are not the type that I've commonly seen called a pocket call, they look more like what I've seen called "trough calls."  The call to the left below has a chamber under the slate and is what I've know a "pocket call" to be.  It was made by Lonnie Mabry and is used with a short peg like an old jet slate.

When I designed the call, I wanted it to fit in a shirt pocket, so that's what I called it.  Yes it is a version of a trough call.  Mine has a soundboard in it, others I've seen, do not.  I'm just trying to be different.  Last thing I want is some call maker
pointing his finger at me and saying I copied him.   I'm just paranoid that way.  Don't want to step on any ones toes.  Thanks for the post and the picture!   Scott.

Nice work there Scott, if a call fits in your pocket, then call it a pocket call, I have made 'em that fit in a trash can, so I called it a trash can call! LOL Who cares, those two look like killers. Hopefully we will get to hunt down here in the Boot-heel this season, water isn't looking to be in our favor!
