SUNDAY I WAS WORKING A TOM IN AN OPEN FIELD AND I WAS ON  THE WOOD FRINGE PROBABLY ABOUT 50 YDS. FROM A FENCE LINE. A GROUP OF 4 JAKES CAME UP ON MY LEFTSIDE AND CHECKED OUT MY DEKES AND THEN PROCEEDED INTO THE FIELD I COULD NOT SEE THE TOM OR JAKES AT THIS TIME THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I SAW THE TOM HIGH TAILING IT OUT OF THE FIELD AND THE THE JAKES JUST EASYING ALONG BEHIND COULD NOT TELL WHAT SCARED THE TOM. ANYONE SEEN THIS BEFORE?

Two years ago I killed a huge Tom...26 lb, 14.5" beard that was ganged up on by three two year old toms' (not jakes).
They stole his hen and sent him packin...he came right to my call after that and met my BPS 10 gauge at 30 yds.

I have heard of groups of jakes doing the same thing.

I've seen it happen quite a bit. Just the way it is sometimes..

Happens quite often, especially when you have a group of three or more jakes against one longbeard.

Had a nice tom coming in almost in range when 6 jakes came in and fought and ran the tom off.  It was really cool to see and hear with all the fightin purrs and wing flappin but ended up going home without a bird.

Happens all the time, grouped up jakes whipping up on mature toms. Just spent all last week with this problem in FL where I was hunting. Only birds gobbling and strutting where jakes. I did score on a nice long beard, but was within 50yds of him in planted thick pines before he every made a gobble then 2 minutes later, Boom!
