I went to school down by snake road. There are plenty of snakes in the bottoms have some pictures of some big cottonmouths. I never worried too much about them, but I was always looking out for them around logs, water, and rocks.

Good to hear from some folks who know about that road.
Oakwood Bottoms is well known for all kinds of snakes. A bunch of us almost had to spend the night in there a few years ago. Too long a story to tell here.
We hunt on Buttermilk Hill quite a bit and see our share of snakes in that area as well.
We used to hunt the Ponderosa but ownership of property changed and we can't hunt that area any more. There were a lot of rattlesnakes in that area.
Thanks,
Clark

When i was 22 years old i was hunting in a swamp on a wma 30 minutes from town. I heard a bird gobbling well before daylight and started slipping in on him. I didnt and still dont use a flashlight. About 200 yards in i came up on a break that had about knee deep water in it. The bird was about 150 yards from me. I wanted to get on the same side of the break that he was on and it was only about twenty yards wide. I slipped in and was crossing slowly when i felt like a hornet stung me in my right thigh. It was fairly bright with the moonlight and i could see the snake coiled on a cypress log. I shot the snake and was really scared. Took the snake to the er with me. It was a stump tail water moccasine. Spent : days in the hospital. Got really sick. They were more concerned about infection more than the poison. Very miserable experience. I still havent changed the way i hunt but i dont wade in swamps before daylight.
