Just bout my nephew the gun I mentioned above. He will only be using 3" shells due to a shoulder problem at birth. He wanted the gun for the feel and better hold of the sure shot stock (makes it easier for him). I already have an undertaker choke for a Remington and was wondering what she'll would work good out of it?  Or what shell /choke combos in a 3" will produce good
Thanks for any info

I have 3 Rem 870's, for all of them I use a .665 choke.  As far as a shell if you want a tight pattern, use the Winchester Longbeard's XR in a #5 shot.  I can guarantee you you will not have to worry about getting another brand or two of shells to get a good pattern.  If you don't like a tight pattern I would go with winchester Double X #5 shot.  The pattern will be a little more open than the longbeards.  As far as your undertaker choke I don't know what size it is, so I couldn't give an opinion on it.  I wouldn't choke the #5's down very much more, You could probably use a more open choke if you wanted to open the longbeard pattern up.

The undertaker is a .660. I'd like a little more open pattern just for the case of him being 13 and he might get a little movement when he pulls the trigger. I've always been a fan of the #5's in the Winchester. I'm gonna push a few of them through it along with some Remington 5#.
Thanks for the info

I really like the Indian Creek .665 choke.  If I bought a new choke, I'd probably get a SumToy.

I shot a .640 carltons and got 105 in the ten with a 2 3/4" Fed. Hw 7  in a 26" Sm 870, that is all i shot them in,
recoil was a lot less than 3" Hw. Just fyi :morning:
