Choke suggestions for Remington 1187 28 inch barrel

Hello my 70yr old mother just bought her a Remington 1187 for turkey hunting. What would be the choke you guys suggest.  I know u have to try out different ones to see what works best but if I had a good suggestion that u guys knows works the best most often  that would be great.  She just got into turkey hunting about 5 years ago and decided to upgrade from a pump to a semi.  Thanks

First of all, good for your Mom! I hope she has a great season. I've owned a couple of 11-87s different length barrels. I now only have one and I have a 28" barrel for it. Both guns with all the different lengths were good shooters and both threw excellent patterns with a variety of chokes and shells.

I would encourage her to deep clean the bore before taking it to the range. That new barrel, even if it looks clean will have some gunk in it and it's better to clean it before it's cooked into the bore by firing it.

I use my 11-87 in the evaluations of both the 3" WLB shells and Hevi-13 with #6 shot shells. A real variety of chokes did quite well with both shells and gave good even patterns without 2" or larger gaps. That gun also did very well with the 3rd Degree shells from Federal.

Without knowing exactly which shell she might be using, one choke that works consistently with a number of different shells is the Wright's #3 turkey choke with a .650 exit diameter. There are certainly others, the SSX is always a good choice but that's one that works with all those shells I've mentioned. I'm sure you'll have other recommendations but that's certainly a place to start.

My best luck in several Remington guns has come with the no longer available Remington Super Full Straight Rifled tube. I have seen them on Ebay from time to time. Never seemed to matter what brand or shot size they always shot good.

665 and winchester long beard 6's.   The recoil should not be bad

I've been tinkering with my 21" 11-87. I've been shooting a .665 jelly head and it's done pretty good with about every shell I've tried.  Shot some winchester longbeard #6s yesterday through a primos tightwad .660.  Averaged 218 in the 10 at taped 40.5 yds.  Do not wiggle vast majority of that load was in the 12"-15" range.  If you want super tight patterns at minimal cost that combo will be hard to beat, but all guns are different and yours may not like that combo.
