Currently I am looking for a new turkey/waterfowl gun and cannot decide between a 10 ga. ( sp-10, bps, or gold) or a 12 ga. 3.5". I currently have a Winchester sx3 but it is only a 3" chamber. I understand that there are pro's and con's for both. When waterfowl hunting, I know that the 10 will be an advantage when goose hunting but I also duck hunt alot, where I have a mix of close and longer shots. Which would you choose?
Thanks

I would go within the 3.5" 12 ga. I have a friend that shoots a 10 ga on and personally i feel its a bit overkill. He also likes to hunt with big guns as he deer hunts with a 450 marlin. Even though I don't really plan on shooting 3.5" shells that much, I just purchased a 3.5" browning maxus just to have the option.

I own both 3.5 12's and a 10 ga. BPS. I would suggest the 3.5" 12. They are lighter , easier to swing on ducks etc.Another plus is there is vastly more ammo choices for the 3.5" 12's and it seems the 10 ga. ammo selection gets less and less every year. Also lots more gun selection in the 3.5" 12 arena.
I use my 10 for geese and turkey sometimes and like it....but if I had to pick just one gun t ould be 3.5" 12....most of the good quality 3.5" 12's you can shoot a high brass 2 3/4" shell or 3" shell in.....something a 10 can't offer.

No contest - 12 ga. Tens are too heavy to lug through the woods.
