I have an early H&K SBE with the low rib.I got this gun new from family when i retired[so i dont want to give it up].I have never patterned it [used mostly for duck].I took it out last week with my sons newer SBE to pattern them both.Off a lead sled mine is shooting 10" low at 20 yards, same at 30 yards-Windage is fine.We tried different brand shells and shot sizes. All shot the same.We shot 3" and 3 1/2".I called 2 different gunsmiths that were recommended on here and they both said send back to Benelli.Benelli said they can do something with the mag tube and get it right without bending barrel.Rep also said that the sight beads should be stacked when shooting.I have always put center bead in front bead--Has anyone here had this done at Benelli and what do you guys think? Thanks  Paul

If you have access to a shim kit, you could change out the drop shim to lift the muzzle.  A small adjustment makes for large changes on the target.
Big Al's "Take-em" Style Silhouette decoys Pro-Staff.

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind te most.

I shot it in a lead sled rest--a shim change would help offhand but doesnt the lead sled show the true poa poi ?

I had a similar problem with the SBE2. Benelli customer service told me to stack the beads as a figure 8.  That helped mine quite a bit, along with a shim adjustment, but in the end I elected to go with a speadbead/FF3.
Pass it on...

Hey Paul,

I don't think I've welcomed you to OG and if not...Welcome! Glad to have you here.

All of the H&K Benelli SBEs shot low. I have a 1991 model and it was about like yours. First of all, I'm surprised and pleased to hear that Benelli USA will still service that shotgun. The original warranty on that gun was 10 years and H&K has not imported them for a good bit longer than that, as I recall.

I resolved my original barrel problem by changing shims and with a set of Truglo Pro-Series adjustable sights. At one time I also had a Burris SpeedBead sight on that gun. Later on I purchased a couple of newer barrels with the raised rib and all of those shoot to point of aim.

Fairly recently, I read somewhere about Benelli adjusting POI using that process but I thought it was with the SBEII.

Those are great guns and if Benelli USA can and will do that for you, I'd take them up on it but before I did that, I'd shoot it from a solid rest, not the lead sled and also from my shoulder.

Many times you get a different point of impact from that device than from your shoulder. They are also pretty tough on guns, especially if you have weight on it.

Thanks,
Clark

Thanks for the welcome--I want to keep the gun ,and mostly duck hunt with it so i dont know about add on sights. They told me they would get it to their specs-0-6" high and 0-2"L,R--i figure since they offered i will send it in----Does the newer barrels fit the H&K SBE ? I hope i dont have to get a new barrel since i had gun dipped last year+cost of new barrel---Thanks for the advice  Paul

I've got an old H&K benelli sbe that patterned low and to the left when I first got it.  It didn't matter if it was a dove load or a turkey load, although it was much more noticeable with the turkey shells.  I sent it back to benelli when it was under warranty.  They fixed it and it has shot straight ever since.  I am not sure what they did to it, but they did not have to replace my barrel.  I hope you get it worked out, those are great guns.
