turkey choke/ shot question
February 03, 2014, 05:28:35 PM
Will it hurt a choke like pure gold or indian creek chokes I bought to shoot hevi 6 or 7 shots through if I try to run larger shot like #4 lead through them? Wasn't sure if the larger shot would work through them. and if so is it possible to get good patterns with the 4 shot in these tight chokes?
May God bless you all

You are safe, just don't go stuffing steel shot in there?

You are fine to shoot up to #4 turkey loads in those chokes (lead or Hevi)....HOWEVER....DO NOT shoot the Federal Flight Control wad through the Indian Creek!!!! This is what IC says on their web-site...**DO NOT USE FEDERAL FLIGHT CONTROL Heavy Loads. Manufacturer does not recommend use with Ported Choke Tubes such as the Black Diamond Strike.**

Shot as large as #4 will most likely pattern better with more open chokes. Some have gotten good patterns with Fed FC lead #4 in their factory full choke. In your case it may be more like a 675-685 or extra full choke for #4 lead. Now if you are thinking the new Win Longbeard XR a 665 may be the winner for #4s.
