Not to hijack the thread but I have a question. I have many mouth calls that posters on here like and most of them when I blow them are really raspy. Cuttin they sound great but the yelps are too raspy. Any advise on what I'm doing wrong.

Other good advice above.  Also check out Gooserbat's Bacon diaphragm, it is really easy to blow and has just enough rasp.

Genesis 27:3 - Now then, get your weapons—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.

I'm like most got a bunch of calls either can't use or don't like. Currently using Pure turkey calls not mentioned yet. Can also use Martin Brothers. Sometimes use Preston Pittman.

Same here, I can only use about half the calls I buy.

If I could only take one call with me to the woods it would have to be a Hooks Jr Executioner II.

Gooserbat

I'm bias but I really like Gooserbat, especially the Hillbilly.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

Hooks' n' Beards'

i like the raspy old hen, double d and e-z rasp from H.S strut...i've called in plenty of mature toms with those calls over the years....Grizz

I have a bunch but the ones that usually make the cut to going into the woods always seem to come from hooks (executioner II) , halloran (TKO) , and houndstooth (dont remember the name but it has a forked tongue batwing design). I gobble on a 3reed batwing best

Don't hardly use any. I use mostly wingbones and trumpets for that sound. However, I did use a Pecker wrecker for purring last year.

Decided to give hooks a try EX II... Will see if I like it and if so I'll try a couple different ones from hooks....

Buck

I have been using Butski calls for a lot of years.I am having trouble finding cuttin lite 3's anymore so I might have to try something else.

I like stacked frame mouth calls.

I think an overlooked aspect with mouth call is getting a good fit or seal.  I cannot run any mouth call well right out of the box, I need to trim a call down about a 1/8" to get a seal.  I watched Steve Stoltz run a couple mouth calls once, and noticed he trims his calls down almost to the frame.

Trial and error, but a good seal leads to good sound.
A quality paddle caller will most run itself.  It just needs someone to carry it around the woods. Yoder409
Over time...they come to learn how little air a good yelper actually requires. ChesterCopperpot
