Pattern question

So, if you have a given choke, lets say a full choke, and you shoot #4, #6, and #2s threw that choke, what will the pattern typically do? Get smaller OR larger as the size of the shot increases OR decreases?

I hear and read where guys say that certain size shot won't pattern good with more constricting chokes like full OR extra full turkey chokes. Just trying to more fully understand chokes and shot size relationships.

Depends on choke size. Sixes will squeeze through a .660 without much deformation. You try to throw a stack of 2s through it and they're gonna be way out of round, I guess.

No expert here, but I'm pretty sure you can overchoke a load.  What redarrrow said about density would be true of, say, a modified or maybe a standard full.  At tighter constrictions you can have more pellet deformation, leading to blown patterns.

Can be a real problem with harder shot, especially steel, that doesn't deform, can blow out chokes, I hear.

Now I'm no expert nor am I taking any one to task but with my gun the smaller the shot the smaller the overall pattern as long as you are comparing the same shells.  For instance Win HV 3.5" # 4 will not shoot as small a pattern as the Win HV 3.5" #6.

I'll disagree to an extent.  It has been my findings in a lot of barrels that the larger shot will not shoot as tight of pattern as the smaller shot in the same size full choke.  The same goes for the barrel that has the larger bore dimensions more times than not will shoot the larger size shot with tighter patterns.  That's why the .775 bores of the Moss 835's typically shoot better overall patterns with most shot vs other guns that are say .723 to .730 depending on the gun.  The Browning .742 backbore barrels shoot better patterns typically vs the smaller bore 12GA guns from what I have seen as well with most loads.
