I have an opportunity to turkey hunt this spring in Calloway County in Western Kentucky between New Concord and Hamlin, just north of Paris Landing.  Can anyone tell me about the turkey population in this area??  Thanks

Kentucky Fish & Wildlife has an excellent web page.  Go to it and check out the Telecheck numbers for any county you choose.  It will have both turkey and deer harvest numbers for the last several seasons.  I lived in Marshall County (borders Calloway) for several years.  Plenty of birds in the general area.

I've never been in the imediate area, but I'm quite sure all of Western KY has a healthy population of turkeys.

Thanks guys.  Anyone out there with first hand knowledge of this area???

There are turkeys there.  It can get pretty thick, depending on the particular property.  I'd make sure you lock the truck door, and bolt down anything you don't want to walk off!

Are you hunting private or public?  Private is what it is.  Public land will be crowded on weekends but usually pretty empty through the week.  Most guys quit at 9am.  Don't know why.  They just do.  I took two birds in KY, one in TN, and two in OH one year when I lived up in that area.  All were taken after 11am.  It was by far my best season ever.  KY lets you hunt all day.  Stick it out through mid morning.  It is worth it.

I'll be hunting on private land on approximately 100 acres.
