I picked up a new SBE II last year. Was wanting to run some 3.5" #7 hevi shot through it. Any recommendations on chokes?

I no longer have the SBEII but I have a Vinci and the original SBE. All have the same barrel geometry. I've shot a number of different chokes through these guns over a good period of time. Several work very well and throw good even patterns at ranges up to 40 yards with the #7 shot Hevi-13 shells. I do prefer the #6 shot but also shoot the #7s at the range to see just how well they work.

Chokes that have worked well for me include, Wright's, SSX, Hevi-13, JEB's, Pure Gold and Strangler. I'm sure there are others as well but those are the ones that I've personally seen work very well.

As you can see, you have a very wide range of choices with that gun and those shells.

I probably did not help you narrow down your choices but I hope you find the information of some benefit.

Lastly, I did not see any appreciable benefit to the 3.5" shells over the 3" shells. Both will deliver excellent patterns and the 3" delivers all the killing power needed with far less recoil.

Thanks,
Clark

I got one in the summer as well and will let you know my results when i get them. Below are the chokes i will be using and i will be shooting only magblends and the new Winchester Long beard

Rob Roberts Final Strut - gonna start with a 655 per Rob
Jellyhead - 660 (came with the gun)
Sumtoy - prob 650 or 655
Hevi Choke
Rhino - 650-660 if i can find one i can afford.

SumToy

The 6's and 7's in our chokes like 665.  The Mag Blends like the 650.

Now I have see folks shoot the 650 in Kicks choke.

Clark will set you up on the SSX size.
Tell us just how dead do you want them to be and we will see if we can get that for you.

This is primarily my waterfowl gun...I have two other turkey guns an M1 12ga and a 870 20 both fitted with an SSX and I get unbelievable patterns. I noticed the ssx is .643. The price is right :)

I'm not against trying the new long beard load to see how it works.

I have a Final strut .665 in my SBE II and it will put upper 280's-300 with the H-13 #7's Rob will work with you till you get the patterns you want. He sent me the .650,.655,.660, .665, .670 and i tried them heard to head . I kept the one i wanted and sent back the others. Rob is a great guy give him a call.
I tried the ssx and did not get good patterns.

My SBE2 with a Rhino .660 choke constantly throws around 280-295 at 40 yards with Hevi #7. When I run Nitro loads I usually end up getting around 320 at 40. I also have seen Indian Creek and Jelly head tubes throw fantastic patterns out of SBE2s also.

In my 28" vinci I run a .650 sumtoy with the 3" magblend and average in the 220 range in the 10 at 40 yards.Check out the pattern pic forum there is a lot of sbe2/choke combo pattern pics to check out.

Try the HEVI-Shot choke and if you can run some Mag-Blends through it too. My SBE II loves the #7s and makes one nasty pattern. The blends shoot well to.
