Pear tree was loaded, so I canned pears

My pear tree was loaded and since I am into canning this year, I canned them.  I put up seventeen pints of sliced pears in light syrup last night.  Tonight I put up 7 quarts and 2 pints of pear halves.  Out of the bushel and a half I picked, I still have 2/3 of a bushel.  I need to buy some more jars to put up some pear jam.  I have loved canning this year.  With the purple hull peas and pears I have put up so far, and the squash I have frozen, I have more than paid for all the materials, seeds, lime/fertilizer, and insect poisons.  I am loving this.  Next year my garden will get bigger.  I have done pickles and spaghetti sauce too.

That's pretty cool, doing it yourself with your plants. Good deal!

Nice.  We can pickles, maters, make jam from strawberries, blueberry, blackberries, homemade apple sauce.  Lot of work but just seems to taste better.

I'm hoping to snag some pears for the bears here.  The pear trees are heavy with pears, they just aren't on my property... :(  I hope to sweet talk a couple of folks around out of the ones that hit the ground...

Have you tried making pear butter?  That's some good stuff right there!
