Matthews 16 1-4....The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times. A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
What are we looking for when it comes to the return of Our Lord and Savior Jesus? Or should I ask, Are we Looking? Trouble is, the signs are right before our eyes, every where we look we should be able to discern what is taking place and take from the scriptures what is ahead! And yet, like the verses say, we can look to the skies and tell if it is going to rain, but not discern the end times....why? I think that many are saying in their hearts that they have heard about the end of time all their life, and have yet to see anything happen...so they become hard hearted and doubtful, 2 Peter 3:3,4 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning of the creation. As humans we tend to want to see things happen right before our eyes before we believe something will happen....in the 24th chapter of Matthews, Jesus is telling them of the things that are to come, the time of sorrows, where Country will rise up against Country , famines, pestilence and earth quakes, HAVE WE SEEN THESE THINGS? He says that Christians will come under great afflictions, be hated, and even killed by those who deny Christ, HAVE WE SEEN THESE THINGS? False prophets will rise up.....(hummmm).....SEEN THIS? Weather patterns are so messed up, we cannot tell if we are going to face a flood or a drought, Dictators are rising up threatening the world's peace, sickness abounds in ways unlike ever before, people are dying of hunger, the governments are so corrupt we can't even trust them to govern our Country....and yet, WE LOOK TO THE SKIES TRYING TO GUESS IF THE RAINS ARE COMING INSTEAD OF LOCKING OUR EYES HEAVENWARD TO WATCH FOR THE COMING OF OUR LORD!
Have we become the scoffers? Think about this question very carefully before you answer it. Do we honor Christ by living our lives as He would ask us to, do we help spread the Gospel like we are commanded to do, are we praying and fasting like real believers, where is most of our time spent......in the bible or in front of the television? Are we forewarning the world of Christs' return, are we sounding our trumpets and raising our voices, our we praising God or man?
When is Jesus coming back? Matthews 13:32..But of that day and [that] hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
So......what are we to do? Luke 21:36 - Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
Let's just hope that we are doing our jobs and that many will join us together when we stand before Christ!
