Does anyone have any hands on experience with this particular model? If so I would appreciate your opinion. I have an older teal colored Etrex that is very slow to lock on to satellites and seems to lose reception pretty regularly. I would like to upgrade without breaking the bank.

I have the Yellow etrex (Etrex venture HC ) , and it locks on fast its about a $100 item - sorry not the particular item you are looking for

uses 2 AA batteries and navigates plenty good for me - I remember one time I was on a plane and one of the passengers wanted to know how long we had till landing , I tuned it on pressed it against the window and in less than a minute I told her we were flying at 480 MPR and we just passed over the Kansas border - its amazingly compact and easy to use - I can find trails down to the yard in pitch black with my etrex

If I tun it on it takes on average about 1-2 minutes to lock on , Ill turn it off to conserve the battery , and when I turn in back on , it locks on real fast less than a minute - its a good little unit

I have the Etrex 20, which I believe is a step down from the 30. No problems with mine. I did learn to go straight to "acqiring satelites" when I first turn it on. Seems to help get it going more quickly. I've used it two years now. Gets me from point a to point b and back again.

Thanks guys. The unit I have is about 8 years old and has gotten me around pretty well in the past. I guess I just want to catch up with technology a bit. Plus Blackmagic says I need one with big enough print so I don't need my glasses  ;D

Well it helped after a couple of years when I showed you that you could make the contrast darker...
I think youve relied more on your compass getting you out of the adventure your GPS took you.  You'd be amazed what I've been able to do lately using my cell phone and "My Tracks".

Do tell brother, do tell. Reception problems? You know the places we hunt have spotty reception at best.
