It starts out by me not being able to locate one on the roost.Plan 2 is go down into the bottoms where a creek splits some green fields in the middle and on my left.I killed one here opening day at 4:30 PM,20lbs11oz,1 inch spurs and 10 inch beard. My Son informed me that I was not to shoot again til he got a chance,He is a Firefighter and has a 3 month old baby girl so his hunting is limited. No responses to calls this morning, but around 8:00 I see a couple of turkeys about 125 yds away to my left where there is a creek crossing that the farmer uses to get between the fields. The hens I guessed went up into the woods out of sight.Behind them I see a strutter,He's struttin back and forth,I see him looking at my jake and hen decoys in front of me.When he turns his back to me I purr and cluck on my slate call.Every time I think he's going to comit to come he just turns and struts the other way. Finally after about 20 minutes I see him start down the creek out of site and here he comes struttin almost all the 100 yds.He stops behind the jake decoy struttin back and forth I can hear him spittin at the jake.I see he looks like the twin of the one I shot so I decide not to shoot just watch the show. This goes on for about 15 minutes until he finally struts off in the direction he came from.He stays on this side of the creek just struttin back and forth.I see 3 turkeys on the other side of the creek where he came from, the strutter sees them and heads straight for them.I hear fighting purrs and see all 4 turkeys fighting. They all run into the woods out of sight. In just a few minutes one comes back out.He heads straight to my decoys.I 'm thinking could this be a different gobbler? As he gets closer I see it looks like the same one,his middle tail feathers doesn't seem to have any black bands on them.He stops behind the jake decoy and starts struttin and spittin again. This goes on a little while until he struts across to the far side of the field. All of a sudden I see him running then flying across the creek behind me.Then I see the 3 jakes pop out of woods in front of me.I mess with the jakes make some calls, they look at the decoys but show no intrest.they feed along for about a 100yds then go back in the woods. It's about 9:30 by now so I eat my snack and drink my drink.I had drank a fair amount of coffee that morning so I needed a bathroom break.I stood up to make my way down the creek bank I find myself no more than 15 yds from a gobbler with nothing but air between us!I freeze just knowing any second he's going to take off.For some reason he doesn't see me,behind me there are thick green bushes, vines, and briars. He starts struttin toward my decoys and when I get some small cedar trees blocking his view I sit back down.Guess who?Yes looks like the same gobbler again! He struts back and forth behind the jake decoy awhile then goes to the far side of the field and continues to strut back and forth. At about 11:30 I see him go up into the woods.Down to my right I see the 3 jakes coming back this way.I guess he was tired of them messing with him. When they get out of sight I run  and get my decoys and head to the creek for a long awaited bathroom break!I called my son and told him I've found you a gobbler, but you are not going to believe this story!I've only been turkey hunting for 4 years, all the gobblers I have killed has happened pretty fast, not much time to watch them before I shot.It was nice when I decided not to shoot to get to watch the show.

That's cool. I hope you and your son get another chance at those birds. Good luck........

Good story.  Hopefully your son can find the time to get out there!

Great story. Sometimes its just as fun to see a show than to kill a bird. My step son and I had a show like that a few years ago but the bird was out of range. Very exciting.

you don't have to kill on to have an unbelievable hunt
it's not the harvest,it's the chase
