I need to get some high quality gun oil.. what do you recommend?

NFW

if you got a sticking problem dont use it just makes it worse, take if from on who had to break down my gun completely like just plain cast moldings before every duck hunt, if you do use it use very very little try so its almost all gone!!! but plain ole rem oil is good, or find something by hopps. I just use my beretta stock gun oil.

Any of the Otis oils work extremely well :icon_thumright:

Rem Oil?

There is much written to dispute that as a good oil, and certainly a "best" oil.

Hoppes Oil is better, Auto Transmission Fluid, synthetic motor oil, Clenzoil, etc., etc.

There is a lot to be read:

I come primarily from the AR world, but for what it's worth...  If you only take your gun out of the safe a few times a year, use Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil.  If you use it once a month or more, use good ole RemOil and use it lightly on all metal surfaces (but not the bolt face!).

In case you didn't already know, WD-40 is a wonderful wood preserver, but I don't recommend using it on any gun metal.

I am surprised that a guy from the "AR world" would recommend RemOil.  It has been beaten to death on AR forums.  It has inferior anti-rust and anti-corrosion properties compared to many other oils.  It is purportedly cut to 50/50 with mineral spirits.

It probably depends on weather and hunting conditions.  Up here in Iowa I use mobil 1 synthetic, rem oil is like water and will freeze as such around 15deg F.  I used to always use rem oil, but I had a glock armorer show me some of the benefits so I switched and never looked back.

I've used Break Free CLP for 20 years or more with excellent results, but I always run a couple of patches soaked in Hoppes' just for the smell of it.
