Are any if you like me in that you sure miss the long song of a Whipporwill calling into the night?  When I was a young man we used to sit at the tobacco barn and listen to their endless song.  It has been quite some time since I have heard one and I sure do miss it.

As you get older the simple things from the country mean a lt and that was one of my favorites.

Good luck in the turkey woods and I hope God blesses you this spring on getting to hear a Whipporwill I'm the eve and a big gobbler in the morning.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

I have been hearing them over the last few weeks... always reminds me of my younger years.

This was the last weekend of turkey season here in Louisiana. No turkeys gobbling at all but the Whippoorwill's sang all night long. Woke up at 3 am and could hear them through the window. Listened to them sing me back to sleep until the alarm went off at 5 and they were still going at it.

We hear them in the evening around the house. Last week when I got a chance to go hunt I was set up around 530 and heard one, along with a few owls.
Blessings,

I still hear them in the Summer here in East Tn, but not as much as I use to.  If you are really jonesing for the sound.  Go here http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/whip-poor-will/sounds and click the sound file at the bottom.  It's pretty good.

You got me.  ;D We hear quite a few up north at our place in the springtime. Mom said it reminds her of Tennessee when she was a little girl.

Been hearing them since week two in westcentral Ala
