I got a call last weekend from a young man at a local sawmill. They have 2 mills, one that cuts only red cedar, the other cuts hardwoods. I bought some cedar this past spring for strikers and told him about my calls. ANYWAY... He called telling me about a plank of cedar that he cut about a month ago that absolutely no knots. The plank is 2 1/8" thick x 11 3/4" wide x 8' long. I picked it up this morning and he was right... not a single knot!
I don't build box calls, but it would be a shame at this thickness to cut this up for pot calls. If anyone is interested in some of this cedar, let me know. Again, it has only been cut for between 1-2 months, so it needs to dry some more before using. Cedar dries quicker than some hardwoods, and it will dry quicker if cut d
own to blanks. PM me if interested.
Thanks,
Wendell
