I would like to start practicing on my checkering before I destroy a box call or two. What type of chisel are you all using to do your standard Neil Cost style call? How wide is your chisel and any helpful hints on the best approach would be appreciated. Thanks.

I use Pfeil Swiss made, it's the only way to go. They hold an edge much better than anything else I tried. I use 1/2 and 3/4 bench and butt chisels. As for how to use them ,I looked at Neil Cost's tepe as well as his books. Good luck!

Same here. I use the swiss made chisel. They are very expensive but worth it. I also use the 3/4" and 1/2" but they are sold in MM. Can't remember the MM numbers.
