Load choke combination for Winchester SX3.

I purchased a Winchester SX3 last fall for waterfowl, now turkey season in Wisconsin is approaching fast.  I was think about shooting either Turkey Thugs or Hevi Shot #4 or #6.  I am looking for ideal choke tubes to be paired with these loads.  Haven't had to do much patterning in years since I used my M1 for so long.  Please disperse your wisdom on me if you have some pertaining to this.  Thank you.

First of all welcome to OG! We're glad you're here and look forward to getting to know you better. I have a 3" chambered SX3 with a 28" barrel that I've had for some time and shot quite a bit for upland birds, waterfowl, clays and of course for turkeys. I really like the gun.

I tried a variety of turkey chokes with it and several performed just fine. The best however, as I've found with several Invector+ barrelled guns, was the SSX. That choke is very similar in many respects to the Browning/Winchester recommended Full Strut Turkey choke. The Full Strut has a .640 exit diameter and the SSX has a .643 exit diameter. Both are excellent products and either of them would serve you well.

I have not shot the Turkey Thug lead shells so I can't speak to them. I have however shot a lot of other lead turkey loads. The best I've found on the market today are the White Lightning shells with 1 5/8 oz. of #6 shot.

If you go with Hevi-13 shells, I'd recommend the 3" shell with 2 oz. of #6 shot, even if you have the 3.5" chambered SX3, that shell will do everything that you need done and throw turkey killing patterns out to 40 yards.

I have an Indian Creek .665 choke for my INV+ BPS with 28" Barrel, and it shoots everything well, both Lead and HTL.  The SX3 uses INV+ chokes as well.

I'd recommend the 6's over the 4's. If I was shootin HTL I'd either be shootin 6's or 7's. I shoot lead and I get a good pattern using 5's, actually the 5's put up better number for me than the 6's do. I know it sounds crazy but the 5's put up about 20 more in the 10 than the 6's I've  tried. I ain't complaining, lead 5's pack a punch. But for real man theres no way id spend 30 bucks for a box of HTL 4's. The 6's will kill further than you'll ever shoot one and throw a denser pattern. Best of luck to ya.

My SX3 Waterfowl likes Indian Creek .665 and Hevi-13 #7's
