Myself and my buddy took our 8 year old daughters out for youth weekend here in FL. Got set up on the edge of a cypress where we knew birds were going to be roosted. Heard 4 different birds within 100 yards of us. They started hammering at every sound they heard before sun up. They ended up pitching down about 25-30 yards from us behind a palmetto patch and proceeded to gobble, spit and drum for about 30 min. I could see the tips of their fans while strutting, but couldn't convince them leave their hens. My daughter whispered "Daddy, they are so loud I can feel them in my chest". 5 min later, a hen walked around and my daughter said out loud, "Daddy, TURKEY!". Needless to say, the hen hauled tail along with all the other birds. All I could do was laugh. She was so excited hearing all the gobbling, i guess she couldn't contain herself. Great time spent with her in the woods.
