Sight in distance for turkey pattern

I know most everyone on here patterns there guns at 40 yards for a pellet count. My question is : Do you have your guns dialed in to center the pattern at 40 yards? I am quit sure I can do this with my Burris FF III.

Yes.  Shoot some bird shot through the choke you want to use at 10-15 yards and get your poa and poi the same then back up to 40 and fine tune with the turkey load you are going to use so that your pattern centers around the poa.  Good Luck!

That is the way I have always done it in the past but no more.  This year I used one of my remaining Winchester XR shells to verify my sight was still on, then tested a load of lead turkey shot at 25 yards and verified it was centered too.  With the inability to get XR shells anymore, I will conserve them and test my sights with a lead load at 25 yards from now on.

I will now be doing what Skeeterbait is doing.

My goal is a 20-25 yard dead on accurate shot.  I will then go out to 40 to see how I am doing.  IMO one can pull their hair out chasing patterns at 40 yards because of wind, form flaws, etc.  At 20-25 yards these effects will be greatly reduced.

I see what you mean. Unless I shoot early in the morning here in NY it always gets windy here. I have tried to shoot at 40 just to verify but it can be frustrating with a shotgun. I think I am close but I think I am going to try 25 yards just as a confidence builder. Thanks to all.

I've been doing the Skeeterbait thing for quite a while....but I just use 2 3/4 high brass to sight in at 25.......and my shoulder thanks me for it!

I use squirrel loads or dove loads at 15 and then test at 40. use big paper. butcher paper or the kind painters use to cover floors. I do this when It is a new setup.
