I pull the beard on every bird I kill. It's so much cleaner and looks much better when I hang them on the wall. Been doing it for 10+ years and yet to have the first problem with a beard falling apart on me. But once they hit the wall they don't get handled much either.

Just grab it right where the beard meets the skin and pull slowly. The only way to go.

Cut mine out.  I use my Piranha knife and there's not much more than a thin layer of fat around the base when I'm done.   Cure in Boraxo, til its dry.   May try pulling one though, can't judge til I've tried it.
