Black Head

I was out phesant hunting in Western WI, I saw quite a few birds mostly hens the roosters I did see escaped (my shooting sucked). The dog and I were working a large slough which was frozen over. I usually hit this place once a year as it is a rough place to hunt, hard walking but there usually are quite a few birds. The dog started to sniff at something and went around a corner, I got around the corner and the dog was standing with his hackles up about 5 feet from this head. I called the dog off and took a few pictures with my phone camera. The head was almost as big as the 60 lb lab I was with.
He was sorta looking at us but not relly seeing us, I got about 10 feet from him and decided that was close enough.

My computer (owned by my employer) blocks photobucket pictures. As you can imagine, with a thread title of "black head" and the story behind the picture... I gotta know... What is it!?

Black bear baby. At 10 feet it will get your juices flowing.Probably sluggish from the cold and fixin to hibernate.

Thanks. I was guessing a big hog... but then again, I'm going hog hunting when I get off work today. I have pork on the brain.
A bear of any size at 10 feet would have me thinking about clean underwear.

The first one I ever seen was 10 feet from me too. Only I was 10 feet up a tree and it was shiffing my pee bottle. I figure its back was maybe 7 feet below
me.My
next encounter had its paws on the 4th rung of my tree stand sniffing at me.

That is really neat. Glad you thought to take a picture..
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Very cool pic. Being honest, ten feet is a little to close for me....
