Went doe hunting yesterday and caught movement on the edge of a harvested bean field covered with 6 or so inches of snow. It was a decent looking gobbler.Since I had just watched 4 hens scratching in the snow I was pretty excited. All of a sudden he jumped straight up in the air flapping wings and slashing at something with his spurs. Thats when the big boy jumped out and kicked butt. 2 nice gobblers at 35 yards going at it. Both had what looked like 10- 12 inch beards. The first bird was a bit smaller and he retreated across the field with the big guy on hit tail making that must has been a fighting purr. More like an angry yelp
? 15 minutes later here they come again .Big boy ran the youngun 300 yards the length of the field and into an oak thicket. Never seen that before. I tried to get pics with the cell phone but I aint figgered out the zoom feature yet. Will try to post pics later. Why would they be fighting this late in the year.
