If you have read over the 2013 contest rules and the new categories, you can see that there are some exciting changes.
There are now several separate categories for entering birds that require no team registration, open to the general OG membership. The categories cover longest beard and spurs, heaviest, highest scoring birds of the various subspecies (Eastern, Merriams, Rio Grande and Osceola), bow kill, non-typical gobbler and even a category for bearded hens (where legally harvested).
Another exciting addition is a category specifically for youth hunters (under 16) to score and post their gobblers, just like the adults. Their birds won't go towards any team score. Make certain that you check out the postings often and let them know what you think about their developing turkey hunting accomplishments.
The requirement for minimum post count for participation in the Team competition has been lifted. Each team member still remains primarily responsible for their own scoring accuracy along with correct photo documentation, with the team captain following up on the hunting results of each of them.
The Old Gobbler 2013 Turkey Contest is starting to look like it will be a lot of fun for a lot more people.
