FastFire III model and mounting questions for 870SM (Burris optic guy?)

I just had a local gun shop order a ff III for me. The model he ordered has the picatinny mount. That's probably my last choice for mounting the optic as I would much prefer the speed bead or the 336 mount due to the lower mounting height.  The gun is an 870SM synthetic. My main concern is getting a good cheek weld when looking through the optic. If any of you have the ff3 mounted with the picatinny mount can you get a cheek weld or do you need to hover over the stock comb. I'd like to have it mounted so that my fiber optic sights and the ff3 are co-witnessed with one another. Is that possible?  If so, is the speed bead the only way to get that accomplished or can I use a diff mounting method?
Thanks for any input.

Have your gunsmith drill and tap holes for picatinny rail. Any good quality one from Brownell's will do.

Once you install you will see that the sight is not that high. I think mine is perfect.

Since I only had one response here and many of my questions were not addressed, I called Burris with the same questions. To my absolute amazement they offered to send me a speedbead at no charge to make sure I get a setup that I want.
Kudos Burris!!!  I know many on this forum say how great their CS is and I now have first hand experience to back that up.

I have that exact setup you are asking about....I have to be honest, it does sit a tad high for my liking so this summer I intend to get a 336 mount and have my local gunsmith drill the holes to match the tapped holes on my 870.

It is not awful since I have killed 3 birds with it this season and tagged out but it does sit a little higher than I really like especially after having an 870 youth set up with a 336 mount and seeing how much better alignment I get.

Best of luck!!  I hope I helped out a little bit.

I have the 336 mount on my SBE Benelli Steady Grip. It felt like I had to slightly raise my head, since I was a bead shooter for years I always plant my cheek hard against the stock, but it really wasn't bad. After noticing a post from another member here where he shared a picture of his gun and a raised cheek piece that looked pretty nice, I contacted him and found out where he got it. It came from a company called "God O Grip" that make a veriety of stick on pads for different guns. The model I bought was called the shotgun wedge, and gives you approx. 1/2" rise which made my cheek weld feel a little more familiar and centered my eye up perfect with my FFIII. Mounts on gun using 3M adhesive tape that is very secure. I would post you a pic, but I don't know how to put it on here. If you are interested PM me and I will send you a picture by text. You can also google the company name and see their products.

Good Luck
