If you have children of school age please talk to or remind them of traffic safety. This morning I was on the way to work at 6:20 am. I was on one of the main highways in this town traveling east when a 13 year old girl ran out in front of my truck. I was not able to stop or swerve in time and made contact with her. (As a father myself this was the worst feeling that I have ever experienced.) This girl was dressed in black from head to toe and ran across the highway in a spot that there were no lights at all. The only fortunate thing is that I was not in a hurry and only traveling 30 instead of 35. Also I was able to slow my speed some and manuver a little bit. I was 6 inches from missing her. My truck is small and I did not run her over, instead she was vaulted off to the side.(An image I still see very clear.) When I got back to her she was moving and talking.( I thanked god right then.) The ambulance was there very quickly and she did not appear to be more than scratched and bruised. The officer on scene said this was not my fault and there did not appear to be anything I could have done different, but I will be left to wonder that for myself. At the time the ambulance took the gir to be checked out the officer did not know who she was, therefore neither do I. I ask you guys to pray for her and her family as I am sure they were scared. I may not know her name but GOD does. Thank you all. :bible:

I've been in your shoes.  About 10 years ago I was headed home from my daughter's T-Ball practice.  My 2 youngest daughters were in the front seat.  Some kids in a nearby trailer park were chasing each other around when one ran out across the street.  I saw a flash out of my left eye and hit my brakes (doing 23 in a 25 zone).  The right corner of my front bumper caught him and threw him about 20 feet.  He was unconcious, but came to.  He was sore and bruised.  I had to take a breathalyzer (never had an adult beverage in my 45 years) and was not charged with anything.  This happened about 80 yards from my driveway, a place I have had to pass once or twice most everyday since then.

Take comfort in knowing it was not your fault.  You will likely find yourself watching every parked car and obstruction near the road for possible places someone might pop out from.

That is scary! So glad both kids got by with just bruises and scratches!

Praise God.Took a detour through a small town one night and came upon an accident scene. The child was already taken away but the twisted remains of his bicycle were still on the highway.Well over twenty years ago and it still grabs my heart. :cross2: :cross2: :cross2:

Turkey Beard

I was driving past a van one day, it was on the shoulder and a kid ran out from the passenger side of the van, around the front, and smack into the side of my vehicle. No damage to the child and not much to my rig. Praise God for both that situation and the fact that yours wasn't any worse than it was (same for the other stories). As a funeral director, however, not all of my experiences have been good...
