Prayer for those suffering addictions

A lifelong friend has been seriously addicted to alcohol in recent years.  His health and internal organs have been harmed by his drinking.  This spring and summer he regained his sobriety, but has given in to alcohol once again.

Let us all rededicate ourselves to pray for those who have chosen to drink.  I'm sure you know a number of people in your family and circle of friends/acquaintances who have fallen into addictions.  Such a waste of life...  Over the decades I have grown to hate alcohol, as I have observed what it does.

Medical treatments and counseling are wonderful gifts to help control addiction.  But only Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection have destroyed the power of sin, death, and the devil.

As with any addiction, no one plans on succumbing to these vices.  But once one begins, its hard to predict who will become an addict.  To my way of thinking, it's better not to start.  I'm not prudish, and understand that many adults enjoy a small amount of these beverages with meals, etc., without becoming addicted.  But as I've stated, its hard to predict who will have problems with it and who won't later on in life.

Some may disagree with my thoughts on causal use of addictive substances, but we can all agree to pray for those who are currently in the grips of addiction and those who are on their way to addiction.

I hope you see the love and care in which I write this post.  May our gracious Heavenly Father break the bonds of addiction, through Jesus Christ.

Agree Dale!!

I do things 110% and learned a long time ago, me, alcohol, and 110% don't do well together. It just isn't for me or my family.

I also taught a Christ centered, 12 step program at the hospital, and saw the terrible things addiction does to one.

Prayers for your friend.

God Bless,

This is so true Dale, nobody knows which time using drugs or alcohol will be the one that can grab us. My wife and I watched drugs come close to killing our oldest son, his started after taking pain medication when he was injured in a car wreck. He has been clean for ten years now and has two beautiful girls. He will be the first to tell you that through God and only God was he able to beat his four year addiction. Thank you Lord!!

My prayers are with your friend and his family.

God bless,
Jody

My son died from a drug overdose 6 years ago. He was my huntin & fishing buddy , my best friend, & the perfect kid. All district baseball player & very popular in school. Man it has been tough !
He left 3 beautiful little girls behind.

God bless anyone that has to go through this .

Thank you all for your prayers for my friend.  He's been clean and sober for 10 days. Physical pains are leaving. He's starting to feel like a human being again.

Please continue to keep in prayer those you know who are currently in the vicious grips of addiction, those in recovery, and those who have been sober for a long time.  Please pray for their families as well.

Pray also for those who haven't started yet.  Prevention prayers that include thanksgiving are also needed.
