120 degrees in SI

It is 120 degrees at our place here in Southern Illinois with 21% humidity.

We normally have some hot weather here but 120 degrees is pretty much unheard of and I don't remember ever seeing 21% humidity in the summer here. Generally, it's very humid, with "the air you wear" being the rule.

I know we often speak of it being like an oven but that's exactly what if feels like here.

When I was out this morning, I would sweat but my shirt would dry almost immediately.

We are over 12" dry for the year and the ground is cracked everywhere. It's a tough year for the crops.

My in laws are 14" below water and their ground is the same way! They have 1200 acres of corn and bet they wish they had cotton out! I feel for all in the whole region! We need rain badly in east TN but nothing like you guys and west of us! Pray for rain

Clark it was 109 when I left Carbondale today.  I'm worried about some prime turkey habitat getting wiped out by fire.  It ain't gonna take much to get it going.  Praying for rain.

It really is terrible here. I've never seen conditions like this. There will be very little vegetation if we don't get rain soon. The farmers here are facing a total crop loss.

As you know, we'd had some fires around. One man decided that yesterday was a good day to burn some brush. It took hours to get the fire under control and finally out, at the expense of many man hours, closed vehicular and railroad traffic.

Most of the forest and fields are are dry and with the number of dead trees from the inland  hurricane 3 years ago, it could be terrible. Deer are already becoming much more bold about coming within yards of us when we're at the range on the west side of our property. They just want to find some browse and that hunger has overcome their fear.

It is not that bad here in west central missouri yet, but the corn is not far from being hurt really bad. On the lighter side I bet that a shotgun would pattern real good in these conditions.

I suspect that you're correct about the patterning but it's just too hot to be much fun spending time at the range. On the news tonight they showed some measurements of heat at playgrounds and a slide had a surface temp of 158 degrees. A gun barrel would get hot pretty quickly!

Man those are SO Cal temps you guys got going!!! The weird thing is that We have broken 95 in my town all summer! We are still dry but not to hot considering its usually 103 or 105 in early June. That's wild hope you guys get some rain soon. Remember to have a clear cut or at least 100yards around  the house for a fire break.

Good advice on the clear cut. We have a lot of trees around and the our forest begins about 300 yards from the house. Way too hot here.

Sounds like Texas last year.
The drought seems to be broken now although it's dry this month, we are MUCH better shape that last summer.

Here in the great MS delta 21% humidity is welcomed.
Typical summertime  temps are 98-102 with well over 50% humidity.
120 is hot period. I pray that we can all get some relief

108 at 4:30 in the shade here on the Ky Va line. Might go put a tatter in the truck with the windows up and see if it will bake..
