Decided to go for broke this AM and get right into where these birds have roosted everytime I've hunted this place. I ended up in the middle of three gobblers. This one was roosted behind me...I actually walked right under him this AM!!! He was so close that I didn't even sit down for fear of spooking him. He was the first to fly down @ 5:45 and proceeded to circle around to meet up with his two buddies. I didn't have a great shot (had to buck a little beech brush) but it was the only one that I was going to get. The hevi-shot pulled through for me again.  No much of a story really...no calling involved...just knew where they've been roosting and where they've been going to.  Not an upgrade but I'm happy to put a tag on him!!!  ;D

17.5 lbs (all "rutted" out with no breast left)
10 3/8" beard (2 year old with lots of orange/amber color on the tips)
spurs were 1" & 3/4" (broken tip)

It's gotta be the hat... :icon_thumright:.

Congratulations on a great bird and a great year! Way to get it done!

Thanks man.  It was a pretty good year...two birds down on my home turf and one in KY.  I've never killed more than 2 gobblers in the spring before.  Can't wait 'til the 2013 season!!!

Great way to finish off a season! No tags and time left. Don't lose the hat.

Still got 13 days to go.  I'll make it out at least a few more mornings with my dad and some buddys, just won't be carrying the Browning with me...

Doesn't it seem that when your calling for somebody else the calls all sound better and the turkeys are a little more responsive. I figured you'd give'm hell till the end whether ya had tags left or not.

I enjoyed being a member of this team.  Hopefully, we can all do it again next spring!!!  :smiley-patriotic-flagwaver-an

I hope everyone will come back and be a member again next year.  As I said, "Once a Spur Collector, always a Spur Collector!"

I had a blast out there.  The hunting was tough...lots of birds that were henned up and lots of fellow out-of-staters to compete with.  I managed to bring a nice longbeard back to NY with me.  :icon_thumright:

Congrats on a nice bird to close out your season, I've had those set up right next to the roost hunts before.  You never make a call but they still get your blood pumping!!!  I had lots of fun and plan on being on the team again next season, Lord willing!
